Shoko Asahara was the founder of the Aum Shinrikyo cult in Japan. In 1995, the cult carried out a sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system, resulting in the deaths of 13 people and injuring thousands. Asahara was known for his apocalyptic teachings and was found guilty of multiple charges, including murder and terrorism. He was executed in 2018.
